Hollister NJB has been in existence since the 2001-2002 season and is a non-profit organization having separate boys and girls teams in third through eighth grade. We are a winter league and operate under the guidelines and bylaws of NJB (www.njbl.org) and the Silicon Valley Section of NJB.
This year we are offering participation in the three Division for both BOYS and GIRLS:
Division 1- 7th and 8th Grade
Division 2 - 5th and 6th Grade
Division 3 - 3rd and 4th Grade
ALL players must be at evaluations to be placed on balanced teams. Each player in the division program plays at least two full quarters per game. Division play is five eight minute running clock quarters. All games are played on a regulation floor with scoreboard and wear a full uniform. Referees are certified and many officiate at the high school level. Each team will have a minimum of 11 game season. The games are played on Sundays, starting at the beginning of December and ending in February. WARNING- Some chapters will be starting Sunday games at 9:30am due to gym availability. Each team will get approx. 2-1/2 to 3 hours of practice per week. There will be approxiamtely 5 home games (Hollister area gym) and 5 road games (anywhere from Gilroy to the San Jose/Los Gatos/Santa Clara area). Each team will participate in the season ending Championship Series Tournament. The tournament is single elimination. There have been in the past three seperate tournaments for each boys and girls division. The teams with the top records play in the "Slam Dunk" Tournament, the middle records play in the "Hot Shot" Tournament and the lower records play in the "Full Court" Tournament. Each tournament has it own championship and runner-up trophies.
Each boys and girls division can also field an All-Star team at the end of the season. The top two finishers of these tournaments qualify to participate in the national tournament in Southern California.
All-Net: Is a competitive division for boys and girls grades 5th through 8th. Teams are selected at the beginning of the year based on the depth of talent in a single grade level. All-Net plays official high schools rules and has no minimum play rules. It is for the player who is serious about playing high school basketball. Hollister NJB will field a team at the grade levels that we feel can compete at the All-Net level in the Silicon Valley Section.
A breif history of NJB can be found at National Website and the Silicon Valley Section Website.
